PlayMonday VI (31/10/2016)

Doce ou Travessura? ;)

PlayMonday – Eleventh!

Good Afternoon to all the people reading this message. Welcome our “Campeonato Mundial de Serinho” (Staring Contest)!

Before anything, I will present our professional team of serious athletes! These are athletes that don’t laugh, they can keep their serious look due to an exhaustive daily training they do for many years! Winners of various contests, this is their debut in a World Championship, but it wasn’t a motive for being nervous. In this picture, from the left to the right, and with her best equipment is Joana (Occupational Therapist), Gabi (Coordinator Nurse), Victor (Physiotherapist) and Raquel (Psychologist). Behind the digital camera with a very serious face, me, Inês (Nurse)
.
In our Recreation Room where our clients, that weren’t suspecting that they were going to be surprised by these federated athletes. Where they going to fight until the end? Would it be too easy to not laugh?

First serious round! Victor comes in, adjusting his serious glasses and strikes Mr A.: “you can’t laugh, otherwise you lose!”. And our client replied “let’s see who loses”. And so they began: eyes on eyes, without winking, much concentration and some silly faces to distract Mr A. that resisted for some seconds but he couldn’t hold it much longer!

Meanwhile, Ms M reminded of our second Play Monday and said: “Ah! Its that game where we can’t laugh! Let’s do it again!”

At the same time Gabi put her new nose and stared to Mr J.E that fought until the end. In the end they agreed that a draw was the most fair for both.
Joana, with her seriously red nose, stares intensely to Ms J. that quickly started to laugh “I can’t hold it, I can’t have a serious face” and the much she would say it, the more she would laugh.

Then, Raquel jumps to the scene with her confident nose and strikes Ms C. that observed “you look very pretty”, but Raquel didn’t let herself get distracted and tried really hard to make Ms.C laugh, but she was able to overcome all the attempts.
So, the four professional athletes used other tactic, striking with a group of two, three, or with more complicated opponents, four!! And with that it was impossible not to laugh. Even our athletes couldn’t resist and started laughing, after that there was no more serious moments in that room.

Ms Perpetua (General Services Auxiliary) tried to beat Raquel and Gabi in this game, but she didn’t succeed.

After that, we went to all the infirmaries and the second serious round started! First Ms F asked us what were we doing and in the end asked us to dance. Since our athletes are qualified to all the modalities, that wasn’t a problem!

Mr A. got very serious, but only for a short time, since it was hard to resist to our four super athletes. Now, our hardest client, Mr P. that rarely laughs. We thought that he could get uncomfortable and agitated but we decided to go for it. And we got surprised with his curiosity, trying to understand why our athletes where there so concentrated on their task… after some seconds he showed us a tiny smile and that was one of our biggest victories in that day. From one infirmary to another, from a smile to smile, we had seriously smiling winners.

Even the blog translator, Micaela, without knowing, went to the unit and was attacked by Raquel that easily made her smile.

To finish this Championship, the athletes tried to confront each other, but I had the feeling that, those exhaustive years of training were for nothing since none of them could keep staring seriously. Word of the day: LAUGH!
Thank you to all of you that made this World Championship possible!

Tenth PlayMonday!

This was a very special PlayMonday! This time our main “Players” were the children from a class of the Kindergarten Centro Infantil da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Ferreira do Alentejo, there were 21 boys and girls, mostly with 4 years, that brought games to our clients. Before that, the Kindergarten Teacher Rita, talked with her class about PlayMonday, explaining that they would go to our Unit, where they would find people there were sick and that needed something that would make them happier. So they could bring the toys they wanted to play with our clients. And so it was: two boxes full of coloured blocks and lots of books!

Like it was scheduled, the Kindergarten Teacher Rita, the Educative Auxiliary Célia and the children arrived to our Unit. They were all holding hands and very curious. Inside the Recreation Room were our clients that had no idea of what was planned and got very surprised seeing the room being “invaded” by so many little boys and girls wearing the kindergarten uniform’s.

They started by offering to our clients three songs that they sang and it was a way to tell who they were. After that, the Teacher put the children on the tables where the clients were and the coloured blocks were distributed!

In that place were discovered master builders that made buildings, boats, planes, clouds, smiles… Between two generations that had an 80 year old gap, but nothing stopped them, they love to play together, because that way, the blocks went through all the tables without needing any explanations, it was all very spontaneous! The pictures describe it way better than words!

Some of our clients, one in particular, couldn’t contain the tears of happiness: “the children are so beautiful; I really like to meet them.” And all of them said that the liked that the children would visit them often and always brought their toys.

In the end, Raquel (the Psychologist) and the Occupational Therapist served a snack, that they carefully prepared, to all the people in the Recreation Room. Before having it, the children proceeded to disinfect their hands complied with the procedures of Infection Control, since they were in an Health Unit.
But this was a afternoon snack that was enriched by the Kindergarten Teacher’s readings, she chose the book “Lengalenga dos Nomes – Descobre o teu nome e conhece a tua história”, from Marta Elias.

Then, she would ask the name of the people who were there and searched for that name in the book, telling the story associated with the name that was in the book in a very expressive and cheerful way. And for those who didn’t have their name in the book? There was no problem! The Teacher and the children invented rhymes for those names!

And that was how our PlayMonday ended, with a group picture and lots of kisses!

I leave here my special thanks to all the children and to our clients that transformed those moments, to Kindergarten Teacher Rita, Educative Auxiliary Célia, Occupational Therapist Joana, Psychologist Raquel, Sociocultural Worker Ângela, Coordinator Nurse Gabi, Physiotherapist Victor, to Nurse Raquel (that even without being in her shift, she was present in this activity) and to Auxiliaries Lúcilia and Carolina.

Until next PlayMonday!
